WISCONSIN PROJECTS SUBMITTED FOR CONSIDERATION
IN THE 2009 SURFACE TRANSPORTATION REAUTHORIZATION

Below you will find a list of Wisconsin transportation projects submitted by Dave for consideration for inclussion in the 2009 surface transportation reauthorization bill:

Highway 2
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Amount: $9,600,000
Description: Funding is requested to help rehabilitate the US Highway 2 bridge - the Bong Bridge - between Superior, Wisconsin and Duluth, Minnesota.  This would include constructing a concrete overlay on approximately 597,200 square feet of the existing bridge deck, as well as painting the structure.

Highway 8
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Amount:  $32,000,000
Description: Funding is requested for planning, design and/or construction in the US Highway 8 corridor between St. Croix Falls in Polk County and US Highway 53 in Barron County to implement safety and operational improvements.

Highway 10

Amount: $92,900,000
Description: Funding is requested to complete a multi-year project to expand US Highway 10 to a four-lane divided highway between Marshfield, Wisconsin and Stevens Point, Wisconsin.  The project primarily involves improvements in the western half of this corridor, including (A) expansion of USH 10; (B) a new interchange at State Trunk Highway 34; and (C) construction of several new overpasses in the corridor.

Highway13
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Amount: $13,900,000
Description: Funding is requested for roadway improvements in the State Trunk Highway 13 corridor between Marshfield, Wisconsin and Abbotsford, Wisconsin.  Most of the improvements would be focused in two areas of the corridor: (a) a 4.2 mile segment between 26th Road and STH 98 involving pavement rehabilitation, construction of passing lanes for northbound traffic, extension of a 4-lane section in the village of Spencer, realigning and consolidating side roads to improve safety and reconfiguring the STH 98 intersection to reduce casualties; and (b) a 2.17 mile segment between Colby, Wisconsin and Abbotsford, Wisconsin involving pavement reconstruction, reconfiguring the Adams St. Intersection near Colby High School to improve safety and upgrading bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

Highway 13

Description: Funding is requested to reconstruct State Trunk Highway 13 in Park Falls, Wisconsin between the north fork of the Flambeau River Bridge and 5th Street.

Highway 51
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Amount: $26,200,000
Description: Funding is requested to improve the pavement and several bridges on US Highway 51 in an 11-mile corridor between Wausau, Wisconsin and the Marathon/Lincoln County Line in Marathon County.

Highway 53
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Amount: $41,800,000
Description: Funding is requested to rehabilitate the pavement in several sections of US Highway 53 between New Auburn, Wisconsin and Superior, Wisconsin.  In addition, the project includes safety improvements at high-crash intersections in the corridor.

Highway C
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Amount: $2,400,000
Description: Funding is requested for the reconstruction of Lincoln County Highway C from County G to the Lincoln/Langlade County Line.

Bad River Transit
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Amount: $1,200,000
Description: Funding is requested to construct a transit facility for administration, maintenance, storage, and passenger waiting / transfer center, and replacement buses for Bad River Transit.  The project would allow vehicle maintenance work to move from outside to a sheltered area, it will create a center to make regional transit connections and will use geothermal heating and solar panels for cooling, both reducing the carbon footprint.

Bay Area Regional Transit

Amount: $3,100,000
Description: Funding is requested for the construction of a transit facility for administration, maintenance, storage and passenger waiting / transfer center, and replacement buses for Bay Area Regional Transit (BART) in Wisconsin.  The building will incorporate sustainable building practices and the replacement buses will achieve better gasoline mileage and lower carbon emissions.

Chippewa Falls Transit
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Amount: $360,000
Description: Funding will pay for the purchase of replacements for buses that have reached or exceeded their useful life as defined by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).  The new buses will have improved safety features, will be ADA compliant and will achieve better gasoline mileage and lower carbon emissions.

City of Merrill Transit
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Amount: $2,040,000
Description: Funding is requested for renovation of the current transit center in the City of Merrill and the purchase of replacement buses.  The building project will create a more efficient maintenance facility, including passenger waiting and staff areas that will be ADA compliant, and the replacement buses will achieve better gasoline mileage and lower carbon emissions.

Rusk County/ LCO Transit
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Amount: $600,000
Description: Funding would pay for the purchase of replacement buses for Rusk County/Lac Courte Oreilles transit.  The new buses will have improved safety features, will be ADA compliant and will achieve better gasoline mileage and lower carbon emissions.

Sawyer County/ LCO Transit
Recipient: Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Stevens Point Transit

Wausau Metro Ride

Description: Funding is requested for the replacement of buses for the Wausau Metro Ride transit system. The new buses will have improved safety features, will be ADA compliant and will achieve better gasoline mileage and lower carbon emissions.

High Speed Rail

Description: Funding is requested for the planning, environmental documentation to meet National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and preliminary engineering and design work of the proposed high speed passenger rail between Madison and the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul.

High Speed Rail
